Closed-toe footwear must be worn by all customers who exit their vehicle to unload. No sandals or flip flops are permitted. Customers without proper footwear will not be permitted to utilize facilities at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility.

All Customers Must Present ID to Validate Residency:

  • Because there is no charge for disposal of normal household trash and recyclables, residents of neighboring counties frequently try to dispose of trash at Calaveras County Transfer Stations. Checking IDs is the most effective way to prevent this illegal disposal and to preserve resident tax dollars.
  • Part time Calaveras County residents - Present a copy of your tax bill, showing the Solid Waste fee to the attendant.

Animal Carcass

Animal Carcass

Only accepted at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility.  

Small animal carcasses, under 100 lbs, are $10.00 each. Large animal carcasses, over 100 lbs and loads of renderings & remains are charged at $50.00 each.  

When you bring in a deceased horse, cow or other large deceased livestock, you must bring in a completed Waste Clearance Application. Please call customer service at (209) 754-6403 if you have any questions.

Appliances

Appliances

We accept all appliances. $25.00 charge/each. Appliances include clothes washing machines, clothes dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, air conditioning units, hot water heaters over 100 gallons and water coolers.

Appliances are accepted at Gambi Disposal, Red Hill Annex, Wilseyville Annex, or Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility, where they will be evacuated or serviced by a Certified Appliance Recycler.

We cannot accept serviced or evacuated appliances without the proper paperwork (paperwork available from the Certified Appliance Recycler).There are no exceptions.

Boats & Vessels

Boats & Vessels

Boats & Vessels are only accepted at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility provided that any motors, fuel tanks and any other device containing hazardous substances have been removed and the DMV Junk Certificate is provided. They are charged at $8.00 Cubic Yard.  

Registered boats, or boats that were at some point registered, require a “Junk Certificate” from DMV (Vehicle Registration Handbook 5.235). DMV can be contacted by visiting local offices, calling 1‐800‐777‐0133 or visiting their website to obtain instructions and forms at www.dmv.ca.gov.

Donate your used or new Books, DVD's and CD's to the "Discover Books" recycling Bin at Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility.  The company will resell, redistribute and recycle these materials.

The Calaveras County Library welcomes your book donations that are in good condition.  

Also check with any local thrift shops or used book stores to see if they accept donations. Please check our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle page for more information on book donations.

Textbooks can be recycled through Independent Book Buying Services, IBBS, at http://ibbstextbooks.net.

Campers

Metal Campers should be taken to an auto dismantlers for recycling; however, campers and trailers may be accepted for disposal only at Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility and are charged at $8.00 cubic yard. We can only accept these if all motors, fuel tanks, appliances and any other device containing hazardous substances have been removed and the DMV Junk Certificate is provided.

Cardboard

Cardboard can be recycled at one of seven Recycling & Disposal sites in the County. Please flatten all cardboard boxes prior to placing in the Cardboard bins.

Carpeting

Recycle old carpeting, area rugs and carpet tiles. Please separate padding from carpet, padding goes to landfill. The carpeting needs to be clean, dry and free of debris such as tack strips, nails, wood and other flooring materials. Bring it to the Rock Creek Facility to recycle. Construction Debris

Construction Debris (C&D) loads are charged at $8.00 cubic yard. 

Segregated wood and lumber is charged at $4.00 cubic yard.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Waste

We have a permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collection area at Rock Creek. California State Transportation Laws limit the transportation of hazardous waste for each vehicle to a maximum of 15 gallons of liquid (in no larger than 5 gallon containers) or 125 pounds of solid material. Never mix chemicals. Place in sealed containers and pack to prevent spills.  The Rock Creek facility will only accept materials up to these limits. If more than the allotted amount of hazardous waste is brought to Rock Creek, the remaining amount will not be accepted, but will be sent home with the resident or business. Businesses wanting to dispose of hazardous wastes must fill out a Business Hazardous Waste Disposal form prior to bringing in any hazardous wastes. See the HHW page for the form.

Mattresses

Mattresses

The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program recycles more than 1.5 million mattresses each year in California. As a participating collection site, we accept mattresses and box springs for free at Rock Creek, located at 12021 Hunt Road, Milton, during the following hours of operation: 8 AM to 4:30 PM.  

Thanks to this program, these units are diverted from landfills and used to make other useful products such as carpet padding, insulation, filters and mulch. The program also helps our community combat illegal dumping.

The County has seven scrap metal collection bins at our Recycling & Disposal Sites. All metal drums must have the tops removed, be empty and dry before recycling in the metal bins.

Valley Springs Recycling accepts copper, brass, scrap aluminum, steel, tin, radiators and insulated wires. They are located at 148 N. Main, Valley Springs. Please contact them at (209) 772-9340 for details and pricing.

Tires

Tires

You can dispose of a maximum of two (2) tires, up to 22”, for free. These can be taken to Gambi Disposal, Red Hill, Wilseyville or Rock Creek. Tires larger than 22" or in quantities of more than two (2) can be taken to Rock Creek.  Additional tires are:

 Tires <17”                $ 2.50/each
 Tires <17" on rims     $ 5.00/each (tires on rim only accepted at Rock Creek)
 Tires 17"–22”            $ 8.00/each
 Tires 17"–22” on rims $10.00/each (tires on rim only accepted at Rock Creek)
 Tires >22"                $ 8.00 plus $7.00 per inch

Tires not accepted:

  • Tires on rim with rims over 20 inches in diameter
  • Tires over 32 inches in height
  • Tires on split rims
  • Tractor/equipment/farm tires
  • Tracks/solid tires

See Resolution 2007-162, California State law limits the number of tires which can be hauled to 9. If you have more than 9 tires to haul to Rock Creek, please contact Environmental Health for an Exemption Authorization.

Trailers

Trailers

Trailers should be taken to dismantlers for recycling; however, campers and trailers may be accepted for disposal only at Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility. A DMV Junk Certificate is required. Charged at $8.00 cubic yard. Any refrigerators, generators or other equipment that may contain a refrigerant such as Freon, oil or other hazardous wastes must be removed prior to acceptance.

Wood Products

Wood Products

Wood products can be taken to any of the Wood & Yard Waste areas in the County.

Logs or rounds over 3 ft in diameter and/or 4 ft in length, cannot be accepted.

Stumps (up to 24 inches in diameter). $8/cubic yard. Cannot be accepted over 24 inches.

Stumps, palm fronds and oleander can only be accepted at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility.

All treated wood, including pressure treated, creosote coated and chemically treated wood must be taken to the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility in Milton. $8/cubic yard.
