Mattress Recycling Program

Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) to recycle mattresses and box springs at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility. There is no fee for residents of Calaveras County to recycle mattresses or box springs under this program. To be able to divert these materials from our landfill, the County requires that these materials be brought to the Rock Creek facility.

Background: California’s Used Mattress Recovery and Recycling Act (enacted in 2013 and amended in 2014) requires mattress manufacturers to create a statewide recycling program for mattresses discarded in the state. The program is funded through a $16.50 recycling fee collected from consumers when a mattress or box spring is sold beginning on January 1, 2025. The MRC is a non-profit organization established by the mattress industry that has been certified by CalRecycle to develop and administer the program. No more than 10 mattresses per customer at Rock Creek.
